The news about the Legionella bacteria found on the Bibby Stockholm barge highlights the risks present within manmade water systems.

Legionella bacteria can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a serious and potentially fatal lung condition, and every step must be taken to prevent outbreaks. Thankfully, it seems none of the people who were on the barge have presented with symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease, but it is certainly a reminder of the importance of using a trusted partner to carry out regular Legionella risk assessments and then acting very quickly to address any issues identified.
