Filter changes (including HEPA)

HEPA air filters

Air handling units (AHUs) are contained within a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system to regulate and circulate air. They are an effective way to ensure good air quality and are usually found in industrial and commercial buildings.

If a higher standard of filtration is required, for example in a healthcare environment, the AHU or room supply terminal is fitted with a HEPA filter. HEPA filters contain a complex web of fibres that trap particulates. This type of air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm).

In addition, HEPA filters can be fitted in critical extract systems to prevent the spread of disease or dangerous pathogens, as defined in HTM 03-01. They are also used in laboratories and clean rooms for the containment of hazardous substances or organisms.

The importance of regular filter changes

Over time, bacteria builds up and the sensitive fins and coils within the AHU can erode or get dirty. Similarly, HEPA filters need to be checked and replaced regularly, in line with relevant legislation and guidance.

If filters are allowed to become clogged, the build-up creates a barrier that air cannot flow though. This can reduce efficiency and even contaminate the entire ventilation system, leading to a big repair bill further down the line as well. It is also potentially dangerous to the health of anyone in the building.

Rock Compliance – making it simple…

Rock Compliance engineers are trained and qualified to carry out filter changes. We will remove worn and dirty filters and fit new replacements, ensuring that your indoor air is free of contaminants. Old filters are disposed of safely.

Our planned preventative maintenance programmes mean you benefit from having a filter change schedule in place, rather than having to rely on pressure drop readings to indicate when there is an issue. Filters are changed in good time before bacteria has chance to build up, and you have the peace of mind of knowing that your filters are being taken care of – one less thing for you to worry about!
